spider guts on laminate floors

we expect to move soon. we're set to close on our first house this thurs the 29th.

i've never lived in a house before. not even a rented one. the idea of myself living in an actual house is odd. the image in my mind seems out-of-place...i sort of see myself wandering in and out of each room, a little confused. i rather like living in apts, you see. the one i live in currently is my favorite...not just because it's where we started our married life together, but also because it's a beautiful apt in a great location. i refer to it as our "penthouse," even though it's far from a real penthouse. but being on the top floor, with a good view, large windows that let in enormous amounts of natural light, central a/c, and wonderful apt managers have made this place more of a penthouse in my mind than any real penthouse in existence. i like that we can go to our managers for any apt issues and we've been lucky in that we've had very very few issues. living here has been wonderful...a real refuge for me, especially when i'm alone and procrastinating from work in the middle of a beautiful sunny day, reading a book or meditating on our cream-colored couch, occasionally looking up to see a breeze from the window catch a curtain panel by surprise, and delighting in the curtain's billowed response.

moments like those are what will make me miss this place the most. the serenity of it, the ease of it, the convenience of its' location, the high-in-the-sky feel of wonder as i look down at ppl strolling/shopping/parking below. i got to watch glimpses of everyday life in pasadena, unbeknownst to anyone else...couples and families, young and old...taking walks in the cool of evening after dinner or purposefully striding across the lot to purchase xmas gifts or hurrying across to meet with friends for a drink or a meal. i got to watch everyday moments happen for everyday ppl from my penthouse on the top floor of the brown Mentor Ave building. it often helped to ease my loneliness, knowing there were ppl down there, living their lives. i liked being reminded of the functioning world outside, with it's kaleidoscope of ppl...it reminded me to join them sometimes.

our new house seems so dull and isolated in comparison. so far away from the life i'm used to quietly observing. what will i observe now? i can't invite ppl to just randomly meander across our little back lawn.

who will fix our dishwasher if it stops working? or our garbage disposal?

what do i do with all the bugs that will undoubtedly find their ways into our house? how do i kill them all? already i've seen two of the largest spiders EVER on our floor. thankfully, they died when the house was fumigated over the wkend. but i can't fumigate the house every week. i'll have to find some other way to destroy the pests and insects. and what about ants? don't they creep in from every crevice imaginable? is there a way to ant-proof a kitchen? i imagine our golden-brown floors spotted with black stains of squashed spiders. which brings me to the point of this entry...how do you get rid of dark spider guts on laminate floors?

Aw, Hannah! Congratulations. It will certainly be weird not seeing you in the apartment. Although...I am still convinced the damp ceilings were not good for your breathing! I can't wait to visit you in your new home!

But I hear you about the difference. It IS a huge change.

Congratulations, friend! Have a great move. And don't worry about the bugs (or their guts); it'll all work out!
